On March 7, 2017 HINNA and UNFPA jointly distributed 25 dignity kits to 80 drought, displaced and badly affected persons of whom majority of them are elderly women who have settled in one of IDPs settlements in Weydow area in Daynile district. According to their reports the families were displaced from Sablale of Lower Shabele region – Alshabab controlled area. They’d lost their livestock during the drought and were forced to walk up to Mogadishu. This took them 7 days, an average distance of 213 km. Many families have lost their children and elderly, while around 7 women who were traumatized due to the loss of their loved ones. Some families were separated and are not sure whether those they’d left have deceased.
Due to the kits we have had were so meager compared to the number of households, we’ve unpacked the kit and divided among them. 80 women have received each 1 dress, 1 garbasar (over head scarf), 1 underwear, 1 soap, 1 head scarf. In addition HINNA contributed 80 plastic sheets and some cash of 100,000 So Sh. to each household. The beneficiaries were selected based on their vulnerability. Our aim is to mobilize the current dignity stock and distribute among the new arrivals.
