Distribution of supply hubs to IDPs in Weydow Settlement

Poor sanitation and hygiene is still a huge problem in South Central Somalia as a growing trend of city population in Mogadishu where it hosts thousands of IDPs from different parts of the country. Since a quarter of the population in Mogadishu lives without adequate hygiene and sanitation condition the health status is near to the ground.

A rapid joint assessment conducted by HINNA member was noticed that there is an immediate need of emergency WASH services in several areas in Mogadishu the assessment also defined that majority of the IDPs have less access to basics in particular : Food , proper shelter, clean and safe water , as well as sanitation sites and most of the IDPs visited especially in Daynile district were newly arrived from Mogadishu and Lower Shabelle , during the assessment the team noticed that there is poor health and open defecations were also observed in the camps ,  HINNA nominated to distribute supply Hub NFIs as to reduce risks and the emergency situations, on 2th Feb2017 HINNA distributed NFIs for 479 HH in 2 settlements in Daynile district , the settlements received Supply hub NFIs including Dawlaale and Cad-ceed. HINNA covered all distribution costs and each House hold received 5 bars of Soap, 200 tablets and 1 jerry cans as 1 jerry can and 1 bucket.

The NFIs have been distributed at one distribution center where the beneficiaries had an access without any protection related risks. The local authority has been in charge of security provision during the distribution dates and ensured that the process remained effective without any challenges. Furthermore, they also participated in crowd management and control as a strategy of supporting weak beneficiaries. Finally the distribution occurred safely and successfully and the entire target IDPs were very happy.
