Protection and Human Rights

Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention and Response

HINNA enforces a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual exploitation and abuse. Clear reporting mechanisms are in place for staff and beneficiaries, and awareness of PSEA protocols is raised through ongoing training programs.
One of the critical components of our Protection and Human Rights program is addressing gender-based violence (GBV), which disproportionately affects women and girls in Somalia. HINNA operates specialized centers where survivors of GBV can access comprehensive care, including medical treatment, psychosocial support, and legal assistance. We also provide safe spaces for women and girls in IDP camps, where they can find refuge and receive support services in a protected environment. To prevent GBV, HINNA conducts awareness campaigns that engage community leaders, men, and boys in discussions on gender equality, the prevention of violence, and the importance of women’s rights.

Human Rights Advocacy and Legal Aid

In addition to GBV prevention, HINNA advocates for the protection of broader human rights in Somalia. We offer legal aid services to victims of abuse, ensuring they have access to justice through the provision of legal representation and advice. HINNA’s human rights programs also include community education on the rights of marginalized groups, such as women, children, and displaced persons. By partnering with local authorities and international organizations, we work to strengthen legal frameworks and advocate for policy changes that promote human rights and peace building efforts across Somalia.
